Crushed glass is our media of choice. It comes in a variety of grit and is environmentally friendly. Crushed glass is silica free and because its mixed with water any contaminants will simply fall to the ground. Vapor blasting with glass also makes clean up and disposal an easier task.
HOW DO WE KEEP YOUR CAR FROM RUSTING?
Much of Ugly Blasters work is glass blasting cars under restoration.
Muscle cars, Classic cars, Customs, Antique Pick Up Trucks, and European imports all can be blasted down to the metal or fiberglass.
This Ford Falcon (below) was blasted on the exterior, interior, trunk compartment, engine bay, under carriage, and just about everywhere that had original paint.

In order to keep the exposed metal from rusting, we mix Hold Tight 102 with our blasting water.
This rust inhibitor allows for 72 hours to primer.
We recommend having your primer lined up before Ugly Blaster arrives.
Know how your going to primer the car and have the supplies ready.
Hold Tight 102 is a good product and does delay oxidation and at the same time we encourage you to primer your vehicle as soon as possible.
Hold Tight 102 does not leave a film on your metal.
Paint can hide many defects in the metal including rusted through areas.
By blasting the surface, we can expose defective material and help you eliminate these areas before re-painting.

HOW TO PREP YOUR CAR FOR BLASTING?
PREPPING YOUR CAR IS AN IMPORTANT PART IN ANY BLAST JOB.
MEDIA BLASTING OF ANY KIND CAN ETCH GLASS, CHROME, AND OTHER IMPORTANT TRIM PIECES.
UGLY BLASTER OFFERS A PREPPING SERVICE FOR A NOMINAL FEE.
IT USUALLY TAKES LESS THAN A HOUR.
HOWEVER MANY CUSTOMERS PREFER TO SAVE MONEY AND PREP THE CAR THEMSELVES.
TO BEGIN YOU WILL NEED 2 INCH MASKING TAPE, 2 INCH HEAVY DUTY DUCT TAPE, AND 3 MIL PLASTIC OR GREATER.
MAKE SURE THE CAR IS DUST AND WATER FREE.
USE THE MASKING TAPE FIRST COVERING THE EDGES OF THE AREA TO BE PROTECTED.
NEXT, CUT AND LAY THE PLASTIC HALF WAY ACROSS LENGTHWISE, ON THE TAPE.
APPLY THE HEAVY DUTY DUCT TAPE DIRECTLY ON TOP OF THE MASKING TAPE AND PLASTIC.
THE EDGE OF THE DUCT TAPE SHOULD LAY ON THE EDGE OF THE MASKING TAPE ON ONE SIDE AND HOLD THE PLASTIC ON THE OTHER.
THE LAST STEP IS SIMPLE.
APPLY ONE MORE LAYER OF HEAVY DUTY DUCT TAPE ON TOP OF THE FIRST LAYER OF DUCT TAPE.
THE TAPE SHOULD BE STACKED 3 HIGH.
THIS PROTECTS THE EDGES.
THE PLASTIC, HELD IN PLACE WITH THE FIRST LAYER OF DUCT TAPE, PROTECTS THE GLASS.

Ugly Blaster mixes a rust inhibitor with the blasting solution when blasting painted metal.
This rust inhibitor does not leave a film, but simply changes the ph balance of the water.
We always suggest having your priming plans worked out before we show up to blast.
Oxidation on metal is affected by many factors, humidity being one factor.
It is imperative your project not be exposed to the elements (rain, fog, dew) after the paint is removed and before primer is sprayed.
Ugly Blaster has other steps we can take to prevent oxidation for longer periods of time if necessary.
After blasting with Hold Tight 102 we will help you protect your project for the short time before primer can be sprayed.
